Woman Trapped in Her Home After Courier Wedges Amazon Parcel Under Door Handle

Rhiannon Smith had to climb out of a window after a DPD driver blocked her only exit with a £90 delivery, sparking outrage online.

A woman says she was left trapped in her own home after a courier wedged a massive Amazon parcel under her front door handle – leaving her no way out.

Rhiannon Smith, 31, had ordered an £89.99 heated clothes dryer from Amazon. But when the DPD driver dropped it off, the bulky box became stuck under the handle of her only door, jamming it shut.

By the time she got downstairs, the driver was gone – leaving Rhiannon, from Haywards Heath, West Sussex, forced to climb through a window to escape.

“I could see the box under the handle through the window and I thought, ‘oh no, I’m not going to get out here’,” she told Hype Daily.

“I tried unlocking it and moving the handle but it was fully stuck.

My dad said I’d have to climb out of the window. The window was deceivingly high and I’m only five foot – and there were lots of spiders.”

Rhiannon was trapped for around 20 minutes before managing to squeeze through the window and shift the box herself. She has since reported the incident to Amazon.

“They said they’d escalate it and contact the driver to make sure it doesn’t happen again,” she said. “If that was someone elderly, it could have been really bad.”

Rhiannon filmed her ordeal and shared it online, where the clip has racked up more than 340,000 views.

In the video she fumes: “What’s the dumbest thing your delivery driver has done? Because I think I can top it… I don’t have a back door, this is my only exit. Who does this? Now what? I live alone. I’m baffled. That was just stupid.”

Social media users piled in with their own horror stories and suggestions – from “order a pizza and get the delivery man to move it” to “push the box with a stick through the letter box.”

Others pointed out the safety risks.

One commenter warned: “What if you were a weak person or in a wheelchair? It could be heavy or you might be alone for hours – but what if a fire started? It’s dangerous to leave it like that.”
