One of just 268 models ever built, the grand tourer came with a prized manual gearbox and a meticulous restoration.

A rare slice of British motoring history has changed hands after a 1966 Aston Martin DB6 Mk1 Vantage sold for £216,000 at auction.

The classic grand tourer, one of just 268 Mk1 DB6 Saloons produced to Vantage specification, is even rarer still thanks to its highly sought-after five-speed manual ZF gearbox.

Since 1991, it has clocked fewer than 5,000 miles.

The DB6’s meticulous upkeep includes a £10,000 service in 2023 covering new hubs, tyres, and electric window refurbishments, as well as a 2025 refresh with ice-blasted wheel arches and underbody retreatment.

It also came with extensive paperwork, MOTs dating back to 1991, and a current MOT valid until April 2026.

Iconic Auctioneers, who sold the car at Silverstone on 23 August, described it as “totally usable and a delight to drive,” noting its rarity and appeal to collectors.

With its limited production numbers, immaculate restoration and enviable gearbox, the DB6 Vantage remains one of Aston Martin’s most desirable vintage models – a true grand tourer with its best years still ahead.
