Pete Laverick’s viral TikTok shows why Singapore’s Changi is hailed the planet’s most efficient hub.
Former rugby player Pete Laverick has put Singapore’s world-famous Changi Airport to the test – and cleared his journey from hotel door to departure gate in under 40 minutes.
The 30-year-old, who once played for Exeter Chiefs and Cornish Pirates and now lives in Hong Kong, was in Singapore on business when he decided to film his experiment.

He titled the clip: “Testing the most efficient airport in the world.”
Changi has been crowned best airport 13 times at the World Airport Awards – and Pete wasted no time proving why.
Within two minutes he had flagged down a taxi, breezed through minimal traffic, and enjoyed what he called “marginal gains” when the driver helped with his luggage.

A slight hiccup came at the bag-drop when a machine malfunctioned – but a technician fixed it within moments.
Pete described it as an “efficient repair” before gliding through immigration and security. “Never seen speed like it,” he said.
From hotel to gate took just 39 minutes and 41 seconds – a personal best that Pete dubbed a “new door-to-gate world record.”
His TikTok quickly racked up more than 312,000 views and hundreds of comments, with one local joking he’d “won the lottery” by encountering such a rare bag-drop glitch.
Others shared their own records, including one traveller who claimed an astonishing 22-minute door-to-plane dash.
Another pointed out that unlike most airports, Singapore conducts security checks at the gates, streamlining the process.

Pete, who previously posted a similar video at Hong Kong Airport, told Hype Daily:
“Loads of people commented that I should do Changi and that it would smash my time through Hong Kong. Luckily, I was going the following week so the timing worked well.”
Now planning a “world league” of airports as he continues his travels, Pete praised both Singapore and Hong Kong for efficiency, but admitted European airports don’t compare.

“I’ve had to deal with an intense lost luggage situation on Christmas Eve before – that was super stressful,” he said.
For now, though, Changi keeps its crown – with Pete’s stopwatch to prove it.
