East London dad banks £5k a month from simple side hustle

Michail swapped bar work and delivery shifts for Airtasker removals – now he’s his own boss, tripling his income and still making time for family life.

A 28-year-old dad has revealed how he’s pulling in up to £5,000 a month from a side hustle that started out as a few odd jobs – and now gives him the freedom to be his own boss.

Michail, who moved from Greece to the UK with his wife and child in 2019, first worked as an Amazon delivery driver and tried his hand as a waiter and barman.

But it was when a neighbour suggested Airtasker, a services marketplace, that he struck gold.

He began small, charging between £60 and £100 to help people shift furniture. With each five-star review, his reputation grew, leading to bigger removal jobs and a serious boost in income.

“If I count the hours I work at Amazon, and then for Airtasker, the money I earn [doing this side hustle] is triple,” said Michail, who now lives in Rainham, East London.

On busy days, he adds up to six hours of extra work, but insists the flexibility makes it worthwhile.

“I have the freedom to choose when to work, as I’m the boss. We like to go out to the countryside, see friends, go to the cinema – if there’s something we want to do, we will do it.”

With August the busiest month of the year for Brits moving house, demand for his services is high.

Michail says his courier background and experience helping friends move made the switch natural:

“I enjoy having conversations with people and prefer the work as a removal man. No job is too small and all tasks are great.”

For anyone considering a similar side hustle, his advice is simple:

“Focus on a specific area – customers want to see you’re an expert with good reviews. You’ll quickly get accepted and earn really good money.”
