Greg Williams Photography slammed for “discriminatory” wording as critics cite UK equality law.
A London photography company has apologised after a job advert for a photo assistant sparked outrage by specifying a “preferred” age range for applicants.
Greg Williams Photography Limited posted the role – which offered international travel alongside a full-time position – but drew criticism for listing “mid to late 20s preferred” under its candidate requirements.

Social media consultant Lauren Spearman called out the listing, citing the Equality Act 2010, which makes age discrimination in hiring illegal.
“Welcome to hiring in 2025,” she wrote.

Comments online quickly piled in, with one user sarcastically summarising: “Experience in… experience in… lots and lots of experience… but also, please be 24.”
Another said: “The ick I just got. It’s like a casting call.”
The job description also raised eyebrows for stating the role was not a stepping stone to a photography career, instead suiting someone committed to supporting the lead photographer.
“You need years of experience in photography but it’s not a stepping stone for a photography career. Who would this suit?!” one critic asked.

Following the backlash, Greg Williams Photography issued a statement to Jam Press.
“We accept that the wording of a recent job advert was inappropriate and could be seen as age-discriminatory. We apologise unreservedly.
The advert was removed as soon as the issue was raised, and we have updated our internal processes to ensure our recruitment is inclusive of candidates of all ages.”
Interviews for the role are still being held this week.
